Device Management Services

When individual or University data is lost or compromised, it can cause disruptions and negative impacts to day-to-day work. The University is addressing this risk in multiple ways. One of the most common approaches to reducing this risk is to use device management software on devices used to conduct University business.

IT Services has worked with unit IT leaders to develop an enterprise-level device management service for Windows and Mac devices:

  • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) (formerly known as System Center Configuration Manager or SCCM)
  • Jamf, an Apple MacOS and iOS management software

The IT unit has full control of their organization’s devices, allowing them to deploy new devices and manage the deployed devices through software inventory, software deployment, security patch management, and more. (This service is included in the IT Allocation.)

Service Features

Device management provides better protection against cyberattacks, ransomware, and other exploits by:

  • Checking that devices have minimum University best practices applied
  • Providing the capability to make emergency configuration changes
  • Providing the capability to deploy emergency patches or uninstall vulnerable software remotely
  • Delivering faster, more efficient, and consistent device support
