Structured Cabling Specifications
The University of Chicago owns and operates its own communications network, which provides service for the main Hyde Park campus along with many other locations in the surrounding area. Today this communications network consists of digital telephone PBXs, paging and voicemail systems, and an extensive data communications network of routers and data packet switches.
IT Services has the responsibility for planning, developing, managing, and maintaining the most effective, efficient, and economic communications network. To ensure that the University’s voice and data communications needs are met, IT Services must be consulted during the initial planning of new construction or renovation of existing space. The Structured Cabling Specification is constantly changing due to the implementation of new technologies. The Structured Cabling Specifications document should be checked frequently for updates.
